In Loving Memory of Calvin Roberson Jr.
Calvin Roberson Jr. was born to Calvin Robertson Sr. and Rosie Thomas on March 5, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Logansport Rosenwald Highschool in Logansport. Calvin married Katherine on April 8, 1970 in Houston. Together they had two daughters, Catina and Catreena.
Calvin was a God-fearing man. Growing up he attended Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Louisiana. Though he did not have a church home at the time of his passing, he loved the Lord. Every Sunday morning, he was tuned into Joel Osteen, Bishop T.D. Jakes, John Hagee, Creflo Dollar, Tony Evans, and Fred Price. He also read and studied scripture in his spare time.
Calvin made his life as a truck driver for over 40yrs. He was very proud of the work he did. Often, he would brag and say, “I help build this town!” He would recall hauling dirt for numerous buildings and highways we use today. He was very knowledgeable of roads and interstates. Way before Google maps, if you ever found yourself loss somewhere, you could call him and he could guide you home with ease. Every sentence would start with “oh I know where you at, I used to run loads through there!” He was also very handy. He could sew and was a makeshift mechanic.
Calvin was a true lover of family. He was a very loving father and a devoted grandfather. He would often brag about spoiling his kids as they were growing up. He told stories of buying their first cars and paying for beauty pageants or whatever else his kids found themselves into. He was a very influential male influence on his many grandsons, and he adored his granddaughters and his several great grandchildren. He loved to cook, and even more so, feed people. If you were at the house while he was in the kitchen, just know he was going to ask you to try whatever he had created that day. He enjoyed telling stories and could talk to a stranger all day if you let him. He made sure to make his round of phone calls checking on his people. Everyone in the neighborhood loved him and affectionately called him “Paw Paw” or “Pops.”
Preceded in death by his parents, Rosie Thomas and Calvin Robertson Sr. and his grandson Kevin Pool Jr.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Katherine Roberson, and their daughters Catina Roberson (Howard Drain) and Catreena Pool (Kevin Pool Sr); his siblings Mitchell Robertson, Letha Robertson, Portia Robertson, Mary Lou Thomas, Archie Thomas, and Joe Thomas. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, Calvin leaves behind several members of his extended family, including Patricia Williams and Camilla Ughe (Philip), and many others who will miss him dearly.
