Charles Stafford Taylor Jr.

http:// Charles Stafford Taylor, Jr. passed away from this life and into the presence of his Lord and Savior on October 31, 2019. Chuck was born on July 19, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Charles Stafford Taylor, Sr. and Pauline Ophelia McCown Taylor.  Chuck graduated from St. Paul’s School for Boys in Baltimore, Maryland.   He then attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), where he graduated with a degree in English in 1954.  During college, Chuck met his future wife, Jean Willis. They wed after graduation and lived in Germany while Chuck served in the U.S. Army.  Later, they returned to Hagerstown, Maryland, and then moved to Springfield, Virginia, where they raised their daughter and son.  Chuck was a talented artist and writer, and was employed as an illustrator and technical writer before enjoying a long career in government service for the Department of the Navy, where he was Head of the Tactical Doctrine Department.  Chuck also had a beautiful singing voice, and especially loved hymns.  He spent many happy years in the choir at Springfield United Methodist Church, where he became a member in 1965, and maintained his membership for the rest of his life.  He also taught Adult Bible Study Class.  Chuck moved to Cypress, Texas to be near his children in 2007, and faithfully attended Lakewood United Methodist Church.  Chuck loved reading and was never without a stack of books.  He could always be counted on for a timely joke or pun, sports talk, and political commentary.   Chuck was most notable for his deep love for God, family and friends.  He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, and delighted in spending time with his great-granddaughters every chance he could.  He always gave to others, never wanting anything for himself.  Chuck was deeply loved and will be dearly missed until we meet again.  Chuck is now reunited in heaven with his parents, wife, and infant daughter, Lorraine Lee Taylor.  Chuck is survived by his daughter, Elaine Lawson, son, Charles “Chip” Taylor, granddaughters, Faith Colvin, Stephanie Martin, and Emily Eden, grandson, Caleb Taylor, and four great-granddaughters.   Should friends desire, please consider making a donation in Chuck’s name to Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Rd., Springfield, VA 22150.
