Cosme Torres Mata

On Monday, May 13, 2019, Cosme (Cosmo) Mata, loving husband and father of four, passed away peacefully at the age of 63.  Cosmo was born on January 2, 1956 in Roswell, NM to Johnny and Teresita Mata.  He moved with his family to California in his teenage years and graduated from Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA, Class of 1975.  On the 4 ^th of April, 1976, he married his sweetheart, Marie Jean Bourdon.  They raised two girls, Christina and Marianne, and two sons, Cosmo Jr. and Max.   Cosmo worked hard and owned his own drapery installation company, working in many of the skyscrapers in Los Angeles.  He had a passion for acting and drama, was a member of SAG/AFTRA and NOSOTROS.  Garnering several acting jobs in the 80's including: The Night Before with Keanu Reeves, Three Amigos! with Steve Martin, Tuff Turf with James Spader, and many others.  He had a wonderful range of acting abilities, from drama to comedy and it came out in how he interacted with people in everyday life.  An entertainer at heart.  He was a super bright light and never a dull moment when he was around.   In 1990, he lost his beautiful wife, Marie, of 14 years.  That was a hard time for him and his children.  They moved to New Mexico for a few years and then decided to sell everything and move into an RV.  Loading up, they traveled through many states hitting as many beaches as possible, then finally settling in the big state of Texas.  Montgomery, TX was a new beginning for the family.  Cosmo had a wonderful and exciting life.  To quote him, “My story isn't over!”  He's right, it's just beginning!   Cosmo was proceeded in death by his precious wife: Marie Mata, father: Johnny Mata, mother: Teresita Mata, sister: Theresa Mata, grandson: Oscar Hall, and beloved mother in law: Irene Bourdon.  We know they all were there to celebrate with Jesus, in welcoming Cosmo into heaven.  He is survived by his children: Christina Gilmore and her husband Gerald, Marianne Hall and her husband Jes, Cosmo Jr. Mata, Max Mata and his wife Kayla.  His Grandchildren:  Marie and Zoe Gilmore, Morgan Hall, Jaxon and Aiden Mata, Ellie and Edward Mata.  His brother: John, and his sisters: Eva, Maryann and Norma.  Cosmo has a great many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles that he loved immensely.

Cosmo was very loved and will be missed by us all, we will see him again!
