In Loving Memory of Helena Frye July 1, 1946 – February 13, 2025

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Helena Frye, who fell asleep in death on February 13, 2025. Born on July 1, 1946, Helena was the beloved daughter of Dorothy Mae James and Solomon Guydon. She was the eldest of her sisters Rosalind and Lorraine, whom she cherished deeply, and a loving sister to Gwen through her father.

Helena spent her early years in New Orleans, Louisiana, before her mother, Dorothy Mae, later settled her in Chicago, Illinois. There, she and her sisters were raised by their devoted maternal grandmother, Earnestine James, who instilled in them the values of faith, family, and hard work while keeping their strong New Orleans roots alive.

After attending college in Chicago, Helena embarked on a diverse career spanning retail, banking, and education. However, the most defining moment of her life came in the late 1970s when she made the heartfelt decision to dedicate her life to Jehovah and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her with strength and purpose.

Helena had an undeniable passion for good food, especially the rich flavors of Creole cuisine, a love deeply tied to her Louisiana heritage. Above all, she was devoted to her family and shared a special bond with her sisters. Though she mourned the loss of her dear sister Rosalind Taylor, she remained a pillar of strength for those she loved. She spent her final year surrounded by family in Houston, Texas, bringing comfort and joy to those closest to her.

Helena leaves behind her beloved sister Lorraine Smith (Troy Smith), her cherished niece Lolena Jordan (Chauncey Jordan), her great-niece and nephew Toi Jordan and Co’ti Jordan, and her great-great-nephew Tylar Jordan. She also leaves behind a host of family members and dear friends who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and warmth she brought into their lives.

Helena’s legacy of faith, love, and resilience will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
