Magda Iris Salazar, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on October 19, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on May 14, 1962, in Brownsville, Texas, Magda lived a life enriched with creativity, devotion, and love, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Magda was a devoted wife to Juan R. Salazar, Jr., and a cherished mother to her three children, Vannessa M. Hebert, Juan M. Salazar, III, and Joshua M. Salazar. Her nurturing spirit was evident in everything she did, from ensuring her family was always well-fed to crafting homemade remedies whenever illness struck. The memories shared by her family paint a vivid picture of joyous moments spent dancing, playing lotteria, and traveling together, where her vibrant personality and creativity shined bright.
She was characterized by a delightful blend of silliness and reservedness, and her strong family orientation was a pillar of her life. Magda’s artistic talents were evident in her hobbies, which included sewing, yard work, shopping, thrifting, and, of course, her beloved lotteria games. These interests were more than just pastimes; they were expressions of her love and care for her family and community.
Magda left an indelible mark, not only on her immediate family but also on her extended family, including her mother, Graciela De La Rosa, her father, Florentino Manrique, Jr., and her siblings: Melissa Burlingame, Mariette Blanco, Marianne Phillips, and Marisa Manrique and eight grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the legacy of love and kindness that Magda embodied.
The community is invited to gather in her honor during the planned services at Pneuma Church, located at 3402 Runnels Street, Houston, TX 77003. A visitation will take place on October 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Friends and family are also invited to join in a celebration of Magda's life on October 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM, concluding with her burial at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland, Texas, at 3:00 PM.
Magda Iris Salazar will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her creative spirit, and her deep faith in God. Her presence will be sorely missed, yet the love she shared will forever resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
